:- 4.0 out of 5 stars from grammawamma -- Hard book, but worth the effort : This is a very hard read. I was half way through the book and ready to quit. It was so discouraging to continually read of his spiritual battles and never seeming to get any peace. Or at best a short-lived peace. But at just over 50% of the book he finally came out of it and got on with his ministering and jail time. All in all, it was very hard reading, but I'm glad I finished it! I just finished reading Bunyan's autobiography called "Grace Abounding To The Chief Of Sinners," so now I cannot wait to read Pilgrim's Progress again! This book chronicles his wrestling with his own mind, his own fears, his own anxieties. This is not to say that his battle is not also spiritual, for indeed it is that. E. -- Imperative Read Before Pilgrim's Progress, etc. : I have read several of John Bunyan's works, finding them to be of great help in pursuing a deeper life with Christ. In preparing to re-read Pilgrim's Progress, as it has been seven years, I chose to precede that with reading Grace Abounding. What a treat!!! I expect to receive a lot more out of reading PP and other of his works! I so appreciate John Bunyan's humility in relating his struggles in believing and think that any Christian could be encouraged through his narrative! Like so many millions, I had read Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and been captivated by the allegory, chock full of theology delivered in a pleasing form, and could not forget Evangelist, Mr. Worldly Wisdom, the Interpreter, Hypocrisy, Watchful, Faithful, Talkative, Hopeful, and Ignorance even after one reading. The driving force behind this classic work, however, is Bunyan's faith, tested, true, and God-given. But Bunyan's own journey from a restless faith to one which which found safe harbor in grace is beautifully told in this small book. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2012 )

It talks about how John was ever mindful of being a sinner but almost overly much. I agree with the comment. Yes, we are all sinners but we should not get so mired down in that thought that we forget that we are forgiven sinners when we accept Jesus as our Savior.
